Windsurf Instructors
Wild Diamonds windsurfing instructors are all friendly, experienced sailors with lessons designed for beginners through to those looking to progress out into the waves.
Willy Angus Maclean
Willy Angus is the principal windsurfing instructor at Wild Diamond Windsurfing and also the co founder of the company. He is an RYA level 5 Fast Forward windsurfing instructor. At twenty seven, he has been windsurfing for nearly twenty years and has been teaching for the best number of those years! He has competed at national level in amateur and professional events and now judges and helps to organize the Tiree Wave Classic, the UK’s most prestigious windsurfing event.
Prior to starting Wild Diamond Willy worked in Dingle for three years and helped Jamie Knox to develop the windsurfing community in the south west of Ireland. This in turn gave him the knowledge and experience to start his own operation at home in Tiree.
Since then he has become one of the pioneers of kitesurfing in Scotland and has opened a kitesurfing school and water sports shop on Tiree.
Will Wright
Will is a relative newcomer to the Tiree scene. Having come to Tiree for a week long trip with his girlfriend Becky in 2002, they decided to come back and camp for the summer the following year in his dad’s twelve foot caravan. They never left.
Will began working with Willy at the start of 2004 and his sailing and teaching skills have both developed rapidly. Since then he and Becky have tied the knot on Tiree and even had part of their wedding on the beach! He is now one of the corner stones of the operation and well known as one of the keenest of the crew to get on the water at any time. Will is also a qualified personal trainer and RYA level 3 Fast Forward windsurfing instructor. He can offer advice on sports diet, training and even offer sports massage at the end of a hard session on the water.
Jamie MacDonald
Jamie rips and is also keenly learning to kitesurf and surf. He is able to offer the younger kids clear advice on ways to use their weight and strength as best they can while learning to windsurf.
